Samsung Epic 4G is here! |
|
Aug 31, 2010 - 11:01 AM - by danDroid

Today is August 31st, and you know what that means! The release of the Samsung Epic 4G Android Phone on Sprint. As a reminder, Sprint is selling the phone for $249 after rebates. Amazon.com has just posted the device in stock with a $200 price tag, the lowest we've seen. Of course, both of those prices are after rebates and new contracts. After you have a chance to use your device, be sure to let us know your thoughts on the forum!

Welcome users from HTCEVOforums.com |

It is with sadness that we must inform the members of HTCEVOforums.com that we have had to shut down that site. Unfortunately the traffic just wasn't there and the site was dying a slow death. Since the traffic wasn't there the server expenses and time dedicated to the site weren't really making it possible for us to continue running it.
However, SprintDroids has done remarkably well and does have a dedicated HTC EVO section.
Unfortunately all our members from the HTCEVOforums.com website will also need to re-register as new members here. We apologize for this inconvenience and for having to shut down a community that we definitely had high hopes for but it just didn't pan out.
Please try to enjoy yourself here at SprintDroids.com instead - we have a great community here and would welcome any new additions. Thanks for your understanding.

Sprint Stores open at 8AM for the Epic 4G Release |
|
Aug 30, 2010 - 3:32 PM - by danDroid

Sprint has announced that most of their stores will be opening at 8AM for tomorrows Samsung Epic 4G launch. The Epic 4G is the third Samsung Galaxy S phone to hit the US after the Vibrant (T-Mobile) and Captivate (AT&T). The phone will cost a few dollars more then most Android Phones on contract, but we have a feeling the extra features will make it more then worth it. Expect to pay $249.99 with a 2-year Sprint contract and after $150 instant savings and a $100 mail-in-rebate. Let us know if you plan on heading down early to get in line!

Sprint's website is now showing the Samsung Epic 4G reservations to be completely fiiled. That sure didn't take long! If you weren't able to lock one down for launch day, be sure to check out Best Buy, Radio Shack, Amazon, Wirefly, and Walmart. End of the Hero? |
|
Aug 14, 2010 - 8:08 PM - by jak89

Well i was at Best Buy today looking for a gift for my doughters 10th birthday. Since i have got my evo she has wanted an android phone but I'm not about to hand her a Evo.
I was looking at maybe getting her the Hero so i can avoid the extra 10$ a month for the data charge but there were none to be found. When i asked they said they weren't getting anymore.
Now i looked on line and Sprint still has them for sale as does the Sprint store. What i'm now wondering is will Sprint push to get rid of all the older smart phones as a way to push us into the 10$ charge?
Dont get me wrong i have no issues paying for myself but for my 10 year old ah NO. I know what some of you are already saying, she's 10 she dont even need a phone but i moved from a little town in Michigan to Las Vegas and i got her a phone for family locator on sprint.
So is Sprint gonna push us to better phones or is it just a case of some Best Buy stores no longer selling the not as popular phones?

Kevin Packingham Leaves Sprint |
|
Aug 14, 2010 - 12:04 PM - by danDroid

Kevin Packingham, the man who was responsible for bringing the first 4G Android Phone to Sprint is leaving August 16th. He has been with the company since 1999 and mostly been involved with product development throughout his career with Sprint. Packingham also was responsible for working with outside software developers that make "apps" for Sprint smart phones. His latest involvement was with the Samsung Epic 4g that should be hitting the streets late this month.
Quote:
SEATTLE — Wireless carrier Sprint Nextel Corp. said Thursday that one of its top product development veterans is leaving the company.
Kevin Packingham, senior vice president of product and technology development, has been with Sprint since 1999. His last day will be Aug. 16, according to spokeswoman Jennifer Walsh Kiefer.
Packingham, 39, is leaving to become CEO of another venture based in Kansas City, Mo. The spokeswoman declined to give further details.
Sprint gained wireless subscribers in the most recent quarter for the first time in three years. It had been losing subscribers ever since its 2005 acquisition of Nextel. That network, incompatible with Sprint's, is valued for its walkie-talkie-like push-to-talk function but is poorly suited to smart phones.
The Overland Park, Kan., company is making a bet that a faster 4th-generation, or 4G, wireless network will help it turn around the losses. Packingham led the group responsible for launching the first 4G phone, the Evo from HTC Corp., and had just announced a second model, the Epic from Samsung Corp.
Packingham also was responsible for working with outside software developers that make "apps" for Sprint smart phones.
Kiefer said Sprint will not fill Packingham's exact position. His colleague Fared Adib, vice president of product development, and his manager Steve Elfman, will continue to work on product development. The technology development team will report to Elfman.
